How it works

Samco MTF combines stock-specific leverage with daily funded-capital interest

Samco's current Margin Trading Facility covers more than 1,800 eligible NSE and BSE stocks and advertises leverage of up to 5x on many stocks. The exact leverage depends on the stock's required margin, while interest is charged on the amount Samco actually funds.

Funded delivery

Keep your margin separate from Samco funding

A ₹1 lakh position at 5x may use ₹20,000 of your capital and ₹80,000 funded by Samco. Keeping those values separate makes leverage and financing cost measurable.

Daily interest

Funding cost follows the borrowed balance

Samco currently charges 0.05% per day on broker-funded capital. Your own margin does not form part of that financing-cost base.

Stock leverage

Use the leverage shown for the actual stock

The MTF calculator can show a different leverage and margin percentage for each security. Record those position-level numbers instead of assuming one ratio for the portfolio.

Figures shown on this page are illustrative. Current Samco funding terms, margin requirements and charges can change.

The blind spot

Three Samco MTF details can change the trade after the buy order

MTF buying power is only the starting point. Once the position is funded, calendar days, stock margin, pledge state and broker risk controls continue to affect how much the trade costs and how long you can keep it open.

1

Interest keeps running when the market is closed

Samco charges MTF interest on calendar days, including weekends and market holidays. A Friday position held until Monday therefore carries more financing time than the trading-session count suggests.

2

Headline leverage is not the leverage of every stock

Samco advertises up to 5x, but its MTF calculator shows different margin percentages across securities. The actual capital split should stay attached to each trade.

3

A margin alert can turn into a broker-driven exit

If a price decline or collateral change creates a margin shortfall, additional funds or securities may be required. If the shortfall is not resolved, Samco can liquidate the funded position.

The fix

Build every Samco MTF trade around the funded-capital trail

QbarTrade can keep execution, your margin, Samco funding, leverage, funded days, financing cost and risk events in one position record so the strategy is reviewed after the cost and behaviour of leverage are included.

Funding split

Record your capital and Samco funds separately

Position value describes exposure. The capital split explains how the position was financed and gives daily interest a reliable calculation base.

Carry

Track calendar days against daily MTF interest

Every additional overnight hold adds financing cost, including non-trading days. Keep actual funded days beside planned holding days to see when carry starts consuming the trade's edge.

Risk trail

Preserve margin alerts and RMS exits

If Samco requests additional funds or closes the trade because of margin or market-risk conditions, keep that event in the journal instead of recording the exit as a normal strategy decision.

Using it well

Three Samco MTF checks worth making on every funded position

Samco gives traders a leverage calculator, separate MTF positions and a daily MTF ledger. QbarTrade becomes more useful when those broker numbers stay connected to the original trading decision.

01 · Leverage

Record the stock's actual MTF margin percentage

Use the leverage and margin shown in Samco when you enter the position. That keeps historical trades accurate even if Samco later changes the stock's funding requirement.

02 · Days

Compare intended holding period with actual funded days

Samco allows long-term MTF holding, but every funded calendar day costs money. Compare planned and actual hold length to see whether overstaying reduced the trade's net return.

03 · Ledger

Reconcile QbarTrade against Samco's MTF ledger

Use the daily funded amount and interest debits in Samco Backoffice to verify financing cost before finalising the trade's net P&L.

FAQ

Samco MTF journal, funding cost and net P&L questions

What is Samco MTF?

Samco Margin Trading Facility lets you buy eligible delivery stocks by paying only part of the purchase value while Samco funds the remaining eligible amount. The funded shares stay subject to MTF interest, pledge requirements, stock-level margin and Samco risk controls.

What is a Samco MTF trading journal?

A Samco MTF trading journal keeps your own margin, Samco-funded amount, actual leverage, holding days, daily financing cost, pledge status, margin shortfalls, brokerage and final net P&L connected to the same funded trade.

What is the Samco MTF interest rate?

Samco's current MTF support documentation states that interest is charged at 0.05% per day on the amount funded by Samco. Interest applies to the borrowed portion rather than your own margin and accrues for every funded calendar day.

How is Samco MTF interest calculated?

Start with the amount Samco actually funded. Multiply that funded amount by 0.05% and then by the number of days the funding remained outstanding. Samco records the daily interest debit in the MTF segment of the Backoffice ledger.

Does Samco MTF interest apply on weekends and holidays?

Yes. Samco's current MTF documentation says financing interest applies every day the funded position remains open, including weekends and market holidays. This makes calendar holding days more useful than trading sessions when reviewing financing cost.

Does Samco charge MTF interest on same-day trades?

Samco says no MTF interest is charged when an MTF position is opened and closed within the same trading session. If it is carried overnight, the funded amount begins attracting the applicable daily interest.

How much leverage does Samco MTF provide?

Samco's current MTF product page and April 2026 support material advertise up to 5x leverage on eligible stocks. Actual leverage is stock-specific and is shown in Samco's app and MTF Leverage Calculator, so your journal should record the leverage actually used rather than assuming every trade receives 5x.

Why do some Samco pages mention 4x leverage?

Samco currently has inconsistent public wording: its main MTF page and recent product support material advertise up to 5x, while another current risk article mentions up to 4x. For a live trade, use the margin percentage and leverage displayed for that stock in the Samco app.

How many stocks are available under Samco MTF?

Samco's current MTF product and support pages advertise MTF availability across more than 1,800 NSE and BSE stocks. Margin percentage and leverage vary by stock, so eligibility and funding should be checked before every position.

Does Samco have an MTF leverage calculator?

Yes. Samco's MTF Leverage Calculator shows eligible stocks, current market price, leverage and required margin percentage. It can also be used to estimate funding amount, total exposure and maximum quantity from the margin capital you enter.

How long can I hold a Samco MTF position?

Samco's current support documentation says MTF has no fixed holding period and the MTF facility remains valid for life. A position can stay funded while sufficient margin is maintained and the daily financing cost continues to be paid.

What are Samco MTF pledge charges?

Samco currently charges ₹30 plus GST for each MTF pledge request and ₹30 plus GST for each unpledge request. The purchased MTF shares must remain pledged while they support the funded position.

Can I sell Samco MTF shares without manually unpledging them?

Yes. Samco's current support documentation says you can sell MTF stocks directly. The unpledge process happens automatically as part of settlement when the funded shares are sold.

Where can I check Samco MTF interest charges?

Samco says MTF interest charges can be checked from Backoffice, Ledger, MTF segment. The ledger records each daily interest debit with the funded amount against which the charge was calculated.

Where can I see my Samco MTF positions?

Samco shows open MTF positions separately in the Positions section. Interest charges are available in the MTF segment of the Backoffice ledger, allowing the position and its financing trail to be reconciled separately.

What happens if there is a Samco MTF margin shortfall?

Samco marks funded positions to market and can notify you through SMS, email or platform alerts if required margin becomes insufficient. You may need to add funds or eligible collateral, and unresolved shortfalls can result in liquidation of the position.

Can Samco square off an MTF position even when margin looks sufficient?

Samco's current MTF risk documentation says market-risk factors such as volatility or illiquidity can trigger broker risk action independently of an ordinary margin shortfall. A journal should therefore record RMS-driven exits separately from planned strategy exits.

Can I convert a Samco MTF position to delivery?

Not under Samco's current workflow. From May 11, 2026, Samco discontinued product conversions involving MTF. MTF-to-CNC, MTF-to-MIS, MIS-to-MTF and CNC-to-MTF conversions are no longer available, while existing MTF positions continue normally.

What is Samco equity brokerage on funded delivery trades?

Samco's current equity-delivery pricing is ₹20 per executed order or 2.5% of trade value, whichever is lower. Brokerage, statutory charges, pledge costs and MTF interest should all be kept separate when calculating the final funded-trade result.

What should I track in a Samco MTF trading journal?

Track position value, your margin, Samco-funded amount, stock-specific leverage, margin percentage, funded days, daily interest, pledge status, brokerage, pledge charges, margin shortfalls, RMS events, gross P&L and final net P&L.

Can QbarTrade be used as a Samco MTF trading journal?

Yes. QbarTrade can keep your capital contribution, Samco-funded capital, leverage, holding duration, recorded interest, charges, margin events, trade notes and final result together so each funded position can be reviewed after the cost of borrowed capital.
