Zerodha Trading Journal: Auto-Sync Every Trade from Kite

Connect Zerodha through Kite Connect and QbarTrade imports every executed order automatically — groups your option legs, identifies MTF positions, calculates script-wise funding interest, and subtracts the full Zerodha charge stack. You're left with the part that matters: your plan, your swing setups, and your review.

Two ways to get your Zerodha trades into QbarTrade

Connect the account through Kite Connect for live sync, or upload a Console tradebook — and you can use both together, which is what most people end up doing: import once to backfill history, then connect so you never touch it again.

Method 1 — Connect Kite for automatic sync

  1. Sign in to QbarTrade and open Broker Connect.
  2. Select Zerodha and log in through Kite Connect to authorise read-only access.
  3. QbarTrade pulls your order book and backfills your existing trade history.
  4. Every executed order syncs automatically from then on — MTF trades identified for you.
Note on Kite Connect: Zerodha charges a monthly fee for API access (currently around ₹500/month, billed by Zerodha). That connection is what powers automatic, read-only syncing of your executed orders.

Method 2 — Import your Zerodha Console tradebook

  1. Log in to Zerodha Console (console.zerodha.com).
  2. Go to Reports → Tradebook (or Reports → P&L) and download the period as XLSX or CSV.
  3. In QbarTrade, go to Import → Zerodha and upload the file.
  4. Columns map automatically, option legs group themselves, and trades merge with anything already synced — no duplicates.

This is how you bring in years of history from before you signed up, for any period Console will give you a statement for.

Zerodha MTF: the interest that never shows up in your trade P&L

The problem

Why funded swing positions are hard to measure

On Zerodha MTF, margin funding interest accrues daily on the funded portion of a position, and it does not appear inside the trade's own P&L. A position showing +₹4,200 on your screen may have already paid out a meaningful slice of that in funding before you closed it. Held across a long weekend — exactly what swing traders do — the arithmetic gets worse, and the interest usually lands on the ledger separately, days later. Most traders never subtract it, so the MTF strategy they believe is working is being measured gross.

What QbarTrade does

How QbarTrade calculates it, script-wise

QbarTrade doesn't apply a flat guess. It identifies the MTF trade automatically, then uses Zerodha's own interest charge and the leverage available on that specific scrip, accrues the cost daily against the position it belongs to, and reports P&L net of it. Funding on a large-cap and a mid-cap position are not the same number, and the calculation reflects that. Brokerage, STT, exchange fees, GST and stamp duty are subtracted the same way — so what you review is the number that actually hit your capital.

Your MTF win rate, expectancy and R-multiple are computed after funding cost — not before it. No more statement arithmetic on Sunday evening.

Built for how you actually trade on Zerodha

Swing & MTF traders

Thousands of traders use Zerodha to swing on MTF, and it's the crowd QbarTrade fits best. Each multi-day position carries its plan — entry logic, stop, target, R:R — and its funding cost with it, so when it closes you review the trade against the plan you wrote and the interest you actually paid.

Options traders

Legs from your Zerodha order book arrive grouped into one strategy with strikes, expiry and net premium intact — a short strangle is one trade, not four rows you join by hand. Tag it by type and see which structures actually pay you, by expiry week, not by anecdote.

Options journaling →

Futures traders

Lot size comes in with the fill, so position size, margin used and R-multiple are computed on contracts — not on a quantity you typed by hand and got wrong. Leverage becomes visible per trade instead of hidden inside a Zerodha margin statement.

Futures journaling →

Everyone: strategy tags & discipline

Custom strategy tags turn a year of scattered Zerodha fills into three answers: which setup makes money, which one you keep running despite the numbers, and which rule you break most often. Discipline is what happens when breaking your own rule becomes visible in a report you read weekly.

Zerodha Console is genuinely good at what it's for: reconciliation, P&L and tax reports. It records what you traded. It was never built to record why.

The Planner: never miss a breakout or an indicator trigger

Zerodha gives you execution. What it doesn't give you is something that watches your setups for you. QbarTrade's Planner does — you mark the levels and conditions that matter before the session, and it alerts you the moment one is hit, so an opportunity you did the work for doesn't slip past while you're on another chart.

Breakout alerts

Mark a support or resistance level and get alerted the moment price breaks it — no staring at the screen all day.

Indicator triggers

Set conditions on RSI, EMA, MACD or VWAP and let the Planner watch them across your watchlist for you.

Timestamped plans

Every level is logged before it triggers, so “I would have taken that” becomes something you can actually verify.

  • RSI
  • EMA
  • MACD
  • VWAP
  • Support
  • Resistance
  • Breakout

It helps swing traders catch the breakout, options and futures traders time the entry, and MTF traders act on a plan instead of a hunch — every trigger you set gets watched, and you get pinged when it hits.

Notes for Zerodha accounts

When you connect Zerodha, QbarTrade uses Kite Connect — the same official API Zerodha exposes for third-party apps. Access is read-only: QbarTrade can read your orders, positions and holdings, but it cannot place, modify or cancel anything, and it never touches your funds. Zerodha charges a monthly fee for Kite Connect (currently around ₹500/month, billed by Zerodha, not QbarTrade); that connection is what lets QbarTrade pull every executed order the moment it fills, instead of you exporting a Console tradebook by hand.

The part that matters for Zerodha's MTF crowd: QbarTrade identifies MTF trades automatically from the order feed and computes the funding script-wise— the interest on a large-cap and a mid-cap position are different, and the calculation follows the actual instrument, accrued daily against the position it belongs to. Brokerage, STT, exchange fees, GST and stamp duty are subtracted the same way, so the P&L you review is net of the full Zerodha charge stack — not a gross number you still have to discount in your head.

Frequently asked questions

Does Zerodha have a built-in trading journal?

Zerodha Console shows your tradebook, P&L and tax reports, which is useful for reconciliation and filing. But it records only what you traded — not why you entered, whether you followed your plan, or how you behaved. QbarTrade adds that layer on top of Zerodha's data.

Can I sync my Zerodha trades automatically?

Yes. QbarTrade connects through Zerodha's official Kite Connect API with read-only access and pulls every executed order automatically — no daily tradebook export, no re-typing into a spreadsheet.

Is there a cost to connect Zerodha through the Kite Connect API?

Zerodha charges a monthly fee for Kite Connect API access — currently around ₹500 per month, billed by Zerodha, not QbarTrade. That connection is what lets QbarTrade fetch your executed orders and sync them automatically the moment they fill.

Does Zerodha support MTF, and does QbarTrade track it?

Yes. Zerodha offers Margin Trade Funding on eligible scrips, and QbarTrade identifies MTF trades automatically from your order feed. It computes the funding script-wise — the leverage and interest on a large-cap and a mid-cap position are different — and accrues the cost daily against the position it belongs to.

Does QbarTrade calculate MTF interest on Zerodha positions?

Yes. Funding cost is derived from Zerodha's own interest charge and the leverage on that specific instrument, accrued daily and subtracted from P&L — so the return on a funded swing trade is measured after cost, not before it.

Can I import my historical Zerodha trades?

Yes. Download your Tradebook or P&L statement from Zerodha Console (Reports → Tradebook) as XLSX or CSV and import it into QbarTrade. This backfills years of history from before you signed up, and it merges cleanly with anything already synced — no duplicates.

Can I journal my Zerodha F&O and options trades automatically?

Yes. QbarTrade imports Zerodha F&O and options trades, groups multi-leg strategies into a single trade, and carries lot size through — so win rate, R-multiple and expectancy are calculated at strategy level rather than per leg.

Is connecting Zerodha to QbarTrade safe?

The Kite Connect connection is read-only and revocable from your Zerodha account at any time. QbarTrade never places orders and never holds funds — you execute in Kite, and QbarTrade syncs the result back for planning, journaling and analytics.

Can I journal trades from more than one broker?

Yes. Multiple broker accounts roll into one view of capital, P&L and risk — which matters, because most active traders run more than one account while their capital is really one balance sheet.
